Exceptional warm temperatures have been recorded on the 1st of January 2023, worthy as some experts said to a “spring day in April”. Sign than global warming is more than a reality, the experts are already expecting a summer hotter than the last one.
A crazy start of the year for 2023
On the 1st of January, Europe already broke heat record with huge thermal anomalies of +10 to +20°C. For example, Varsow recorded +18°C compared to its seasonal norm.
Far from being an exception, climate experts are expecting a summer 2023 hotter than 2022’s one, explain in part by the end of weather pattern called “La Niña” when cooler-than-average sea temperatures in the Pacific lowered the average global temperature.
The consequences on animal’s comfort and performances should be important. Thus, it is more than ever crucial to support farmers in this context with adapted and proven solutions.

Anticipate at best summer 2023 to limit its consequences
To prepare at best, it is necessary to know the level of risks at which the animals are subjected. To do do, the indicator best-suited is the Temperature-Humidity Index (THI). The CCPA Group has developed to Thermo®Plan. It’s a tool to follow precisely and locally the level of THI on the last years, based on the weather data.
Its update with 2022 temperatures has highlighted an increase of the risk by 1 day per month, between one to all month during summer in Europe. In some area, animals can be subjected to heat stress during more than 90% of summertime.
